Position Announcement: Post-doctoral Researcher in plant reproductive genetics

A two-year post-doctoral researcher position is available in the Comai laboratory. The Comai laboratory is a plant genomics laboratory at the University of California at Davis and affiliated with the department of Plant Biology. It is located in the Genome Center, a state-of-the-art genomic research facility, and has an existing staff of about fifteen people ( The position is ideal for a candidate interested in molecular biology, plant reproductive biology and plant genetics research.

The Comai laboratory, as part of the Capturing Heterosis team consisting of experts from from Australia, USA, Mexico and Switzerland is helping to develop novel technologies in plant reproductive biology in order to improve cowpea and sorghum yields for subsistence farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating strategies to optimize haploid induction efficiency in the Arabidopsis thaliana model system. This work is an important step towards engineering self-reproducing hybrid seeds. As part of the Capturing Heterosis team, the researcher will also have the opportunity to interact with other groups within the Capturing Heterosis project.

This is a project funded a CSIRO (Australia) subcontract from a Gates Foundation award. This appointment is 100% time with an annual rate consistent with the NIH-recommended salary scale, based on previous experience.
