Position Announcement: Post-doctoral Researcher in plant molecular biology

A two-year post-doctoral researcher position is available in the Comai laboratory. The Comai laboratory is a plant genomics laboratory at the University of California at Davis and affiliated with the department of Plant Biology. It is located in the Genome Center, a state-of-the-art genomic research facility, and has an existing staff of about fifteen people ( The position is ideal for a candidate interested in molecular biology and plant genetics research.

The Comai laboratory, in collaboration with researchers from Kyoto University, has identified two genes involved in sex determination in dioecious persimmon (Diospyros lotus, see our recent publication here). In short, expression of the MeGI transcription factor is required for the formation of female flowers. In male flower, the expression of MeGI is negatively regulated by a Y-specific smRNA encoded by a close homolog of MeGI called OGI. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying these gene functions, predominantly using transgene technology in A. thaliana.

This is an NSF-funded project. This appointment is 100% time with an annual rate consistent with the NIH-recommended salary scale, based on previous experience.
